Digital Hearing
Digital hearing aids are becoming more and more common
everyday because the required circuitry is much smaller than similar
analogue models, and is getting smaller everyday. Some people even wear
a type of hearing aid in their ear everyday even though they do not
have any hearing loss or impairment. They wear them, usually in one
ear, for the purpose of connecting hands free with a communication device
such as a cell phone.
Digital hearing aids are also becoming completely wireless, so adjustments
made to one hearing aid are sent to the other aid in the other ear.
The microphone can also be wirelessly connected to the speakers that
are in each ear. The size of the aid is limited by the battery which
has to power the speaker, but they can be much smaller than typical
models. As more people put digital devices in their ears, hearing aids
are becoming more accepted and less noticed.
FM systems can be employed with digital hearing aids as well. A special
microphone can be given to a speaker, whether it is at a religious service
or just at a restaurant or mall, which can have a direct FM connection
to the hearing aid. This eliminates background noise and the difficulty
of listening to voices over large areas. Active listening systems can
transmit sounds made on stage directly to the hearing impaired.
